Why order this $1 American 2020 1 oz Silver Eagle?
The American Silver Eagle Series has enamored collectors for three and a half decades. Now in its 35th year, the series remains the most popular precious metal coin in the world. The coin enjoys the backing of the US government for weight and purity. While the issue has been relatively constant in terms of design, the striking of the coin at multiple mints in recent years has offered collectors some variety. This piece, for example, was struck at the Philadelphia Mint from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
Featuring Adolph Weinman's Historic Walking Liberty Design
From 1916-1947, Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design graced the half dollar. The design was so popular that it was brought back for this series when it began in 1986. Liberty is the image of patriotism, draped in the American flag and wearing a Phrygian cap upon her head. The cap is traditionally worn by freed slaves. Liberty extends her right hand in front of her above the morning sun while carrying laurel and oak branches in her left hand. The laurel branches represent civilian honors and the oak branches represent military ones. "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2020" are each inscribed on this face.
On the reverse is John Mercanti's adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States. An eagle protects a union shield while clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The former symbolize America's willingness to stand up for her values, while the latter expresses a preference for peace. The bird also holds a ribbon with the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. Above the bird's head are thirteen stars, one for each of the original states. Rim inscriptions encircling the image include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
