Why buy this 2020 $1 American 1 oz Silver Eagle?

The American Silver Eagle Series began in 1986. Since then, it has become the world's favorite bullion coin. Offering both a pair of patriotic designs and US government backing for weight and purity, this series is at the foundation of countless collections throughout the world. 2020 marks the 35th issue in the series and the last time that the original reverse design will appear on the bullion version of the coin. This coin was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.

Featuring the Iconic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman

The obverse bears one of the most famous designs in American history, Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty. Liberty strides to the left side of this face draped in an American flag. She wears a Phrygian cap, which identifies her as a freed slave. In her left arm, she bears branches, oak to represent honors bestowed upon members of the military and laurel to represent those bestowed upon civilians. She extends her right hand in front of her above the morning sun, as if presenting the holder with the new day. Obverse inscriptions include her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020."

Making its final appears on the bullion Silver Eagle is John Mercanti's adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States. An eagle protects a union shield while holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The arrows remind all that America is prepared to defend her values, while the olive branch indicates a desire for peace. The bird also holds a ribbon that bears the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. Above the eagle's head are thirteen stars, one for each of the original states. Rim inscriptions encircle Mercanti's design. They read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
