Why buy this 2020 $1 American 1 oz Silver Eagle?
The American Silver Eagle enters its 35th year in 2020. The iconic series continues to lead the way as the most popular silver bullion coin in the world. The coin's popularity stems not only from its stunning designs but also the fact that it is backed for weight and purity by the US government. Each American Silver Eagle is struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver. This coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint.
Featuring Adolph Weinman's Famous Walking Liberty Design
The coin's obverse features the iconic Walking Liberty design that Adolph Weinman created for the half dollar. Liberty is draped in the American flag and dons a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of a freed slave. She extends her right hand in front of her above the morning sun, as though she is presenting the holder with the new day. In her left hand, she carries branches of laurel and oak, which represent civilian and military honors, respectively. "LIBERTY" arches over the design, which the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020," are also inscribed on this face.
John Mercanti created the reverse design, modeling it off of the Great Seal of the United States. An eagle holds arrows and an olive branch in its talons while also holding a ribbon in its beak. The arrows indicate that America is always ready to defend her values, while the olive branch indicates a preference for peace. The ribbon bears the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). Above the bird's head are thirteen stars, which represent the original states. The coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR," are inscribed along the rim.
