Why purchase this 1 oz Silver 2020 $1 American Eagle for your collection?
The American Silver Eagle is the world's most collected bullion coin year in and year out. Its stunning designs that include one from a historic numismatic legend and one from a living one combine with its US government backing for weight and purity drive the demand for this series. So popular has the coin become that the US Mint has struck the bullion coin at multiple mints in recent years. This one was struck in Philadelphia on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.
Featuring the Stunning Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
The Silver Eagle's obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's iconic Walking Liberty half dollar, which was issued from 1916-1947. Draped in the American flag and wearing a traditional indicator of a freed slave, a Phrygian cap, on her head, Liberty strides toward the left side of the coin. She extends her right hand in front of her above the morning sun, as if greeting the new day, while carrying laurel and oak branches in her left hand. The branches are traditional symbols of civilian and military honors, respectively. The word "LIBERTY" arches over the design, with other inscriptions on this face offer the date, "2020," and national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST."
The Great Seal of the United States served as John Mercanti's inspiration for his reverse design. At the top are thirteen stars, one for each of the original states. Below, an eagle guards a union shield. The bird clutches arrows and an olive branch in its talons and holds a ribbon with the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. The arrows serve as reminders to all that America is willing to defend her values when necessary, while the olive branch expresses a strong preference for peace. Three inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR," encircle the image along the rim.
