Why purchase this 2020 1 oz Silver $1 American Eagle? The American Silver Eagle Series enters its 35th year with the debut of the 2020 edition. The coin is admired and collected around the world due in part to its stunning designs and in part to its backing by the US government for weight and purity. Demand has been so high that in recent years the US Mint has struck the coins at multiple mints. This has created some variety in a series that otherwise has had relatively little. This coin was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver. Featuring the Treasured Walking Liberty Design of Adolph WeinmanThe coin's obverse bears the famous Walking Liberty design that Adolph Weinman created for the half dollar. It featured on that coin from 1916-1947. Liberty is draped in the American flag and has a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom from slavery, on her head. She strides toward the left side of the coin carrying with her branches of laurel and oak. Laurel branches represent civilian honors, while oak branches represent military ones. She extends her right hand above the morning sun, which emerges from beyond the horizon on the left. "LIBERTY" arches over the image, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed to the right. The coin's date, "2020," is included at the bottom. An adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti serves as the reverse design. Thirteen stars represent the original states at the top. Under the stars is an eagle, which protects a union shield. The bird holds arrows and an olive branch in its talons and a ribbon in its beak. The arrows remind all that America is willing to defend her values, while the olive branch expresses a desire for peace. "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is inscribed on the ribbon. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" joints with "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR" to encircle the image on the rim.
