Why order this 2020 $1 American 1 oz Silver Eagle?
The American Silver Eagle Series is now in its 35th year. Since its inception, the Silver Eagle has been a favorite among collectors around the world not only because of its beauty but also because of its US government backing for weight and purity. Today, Silver Eagles are the world's most collected bullion coin. This piece was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver. The 2020 edition will be the last bullion Silver Eagle to bear the reverse design as originally conceived, which has been a mainstay on the coin since the series began.
Featuring the Classic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
The obverse of this coin bears Adolph Weinman's famous Walking Liberty design. The image, which first appeared on the half dollar from 1916-1947, features Liberty striding confidently to the left side of this face draped in an American flag and wearing a Phrygian cap on her head. In her left arm she bears branches, oak for honors bestowed upon members of the military and laurel for honors bestowed upon civilians. She extends her right hand in front of her, as if presenting the morning sun, which rises below, to the holder. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed on this face, as are the date, "2020," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST."
On the reverse is John Mercanti's adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States. An eagle guards a union shield while clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The arrows serve as reminders that America is willing to defend her values, while the olive branch expresses a desire for peace. The bird also holds a ribbon with the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. Above are thirteen stars, symbols of the original states. Three inscriptions along the rim note the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR."
