Why order this $1 American 2020 1 oz Silver Eagle?
2020 marks the 35th year of the American Silver Eagle. While the series has been popular since its inception due to its beautiful designs and US government backing for weight and purity, mintages have exploded in recent years to meet the demand. The Silver Eagle remains the world's most popular bullion issue. This is the last one that will bear John Mercanti's reverse design as originally conceived, which has been a part of the coin since its debut. This piece was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.
Featuring the Iconic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
The obverse bears Adolph Weinman's famous Walking Liberty design, which appeared on American half dollars from 1916-1947. Draped in the American flag and wearing a Phrygian cap, which identifies her as a freed slave, Liberty strides confidently to the left side of this face. She extends her right hand in front of her above the rising sun, as though presenting the new day to the holder. In her left arm she carries branches of laurel and oak, laurel representing honors bestowed upon civilians and oak representing honors bestowed upon members of the military. Her name, "LIBERTY," arches over the image, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is on the right. The date, "2020," is inscribed at the bottom.
On the reverse is an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. Thirteen stars are arranged in a triangular formation above an eagle. The stars represent the original states. The eagle spreads its wings while guarding a union shield. In its beak is a ribbon that bears the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM." It also clutches arrows, symbols of America's willingness to defend her values, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in its talons. Encircling the image along the rim are three inscriptions which note the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR."
