Why buy this 2020 1/2 oz Gold $25 American Eagle?
The American Gold Eagle is among the most popular gold bullion coins in the world. This is in large part due to its backing for weight and purity by the US government but also due to its stunning obverse design. The series is struck in four sizes, of which this half ounce piece is the second largest. This piece was struck on a .9167 fine gold planchet at the West Point Mint.
Featuring the Famous Saint-Gaudens Design of Augustus Saint-Gaudens
The obverse design is named for Augustus Saint-Gaudens, who created it for the double eagle. It featured on that series from 1907-1933. At the center is Liberty, who stands facing the holder with one foot set upon a rock and her long hair blowing in the breeze. She holds her torch, a symbol of freedom, high in her right hand while holding an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in her left. She is joined by a small rendering of the Capitol Dome, which is set off to the left, and the rays of the morning sun, which spread out behind her. The original design had forty-six stars around the rim, but four have since been added to account for the country's youngest states. Inscriptions on this face read, "LIBERTY" and "2020."
On the reverse is a family of eagles. The design was created by Miley Busiek. A male eagle brings an olive branch back to his nest, where his mate tends to their young. Inscriptions to the left and right read, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," respectively. The coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," weight, "1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD," and face value, "25 DOLLARS," are inscribed along the rim.
Flawless MS70 with Brown Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) provided this coin's grade on a brown label. The grading company awarded the piece its highest grade, Mint State 70, which means that it is in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification.
