Why add this 2020 $5 American 1/10 oz Gold Eagle to your collection?
Share in the rich tradition of the Gold Eagle Series with this piece from the 35th issue of the coin. The series quickly emerged as a collector favorite following its debut in 1986. Combining one of numismatic history's most beautiful designs executed according to modern minting techniques and US government backing for weight and purity, the series is perfect for collectors new and old. This $5 piece is the smallest of the four sizes in which the coin is struck. This piece was struck at the West Point Mint on a 1/10 oz planchet of .9167 fine gold.
Featuring Adolph Weinman's Famous Double Eagle Design
The obverse design was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and featured on the double eagle from 1907-1933. At the center is Liberty, who stands confidently with one foot on a rock and her long hair blowing in the breeze. She holds an olive branch, a symbol of peace, off to her side while holding her torch, a powerful symbol of freedom that is recognized throughout the world, in front of her. She appears an imposing figure thanks in part to the rays of the morning sun that spread out behind her. Also contributing to this effect is the miniature Capitol Dome, which is set off to the side. The image is encircled by fifty stars, four more than the original forty-six, which represent the states. Both "LIBERTY" and the date, "2020," are inscribed on this face.
On the reverse is a family of eagles. The design, which was created by Miley Busiek, is divided into two parts by a pair of statutory inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The top portion is a male eagle preparing to land in his nest with an olive branch in his talons. Below, his family awaits his return in the nest. The coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," weight, "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD," and face value, "5 DOLLARS," are inscribed along the rim..
