Why buy this $5 American 2020 1/10 oz Gold Eagle?
Since 1986, the American Gold Eagle has been at the top of the list of countless collectors as an annual 'must have.' The coin is popular thanks in part to its backing for weight and purity by the US government and in part because of its designs, including the iconic Saint-Gaudens, which appears on the obverse. This 1/10 oz piece is the smallest of the four sizes in which the coin is issued. It was struck on a .9167 fine gold planchet at the West Point Mint.
Featuring the Iconic Liberty Design of Augustus Saint-Gaudens
The coin's obverse bears Augustus Saint-Gaudens's double eagle designed. Named for the man who created it, the image features Liberty standing at the center facing the holder with her torch of freedom in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. She elevates her left foot upon a rock as strong wind blows her hair and garment. The rays of the morning sun spread out behind her, and a miniature rendering of the Capitol Dome is set off to the left. Fifty stars, four more than appeared on the original design in 1907, encircle the image along the rim. "LIBERTY" is inscribed at the top, and the date, "2020," is set off to the right.
On the reverse is an eagle family design by Miley Busiek. A mother eagle nestles her young while watching her mate return with an olive branch. Statutory inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," are included on the left and right, respectively. The coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," weight, "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD," and face value, "5 DOLLARS," are inscribed along the rim.
Flawless MS70 FDI with Black Core Holder and Exclusive Eagle Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) set this coin in a black core holder and provided its grading information on a label that features a bald eagle. That information includes both a Mint State 70 grade, the company's highest, and First Day of Issue certification. The Mint State 70 grade means that the coin appears perfect under 5x magnification, while FDI certification means that the coin was submitted for grading through an exclusive process.
