Why purchase this 2019-W American Silver Eagle Proof?
The American Silver Eagle is the world's most collected bullion coin thanks largely to its backing for weight and purity by the U.S government. However, tts stunning beauty complete with a classic numismatic design, should not be overlooked. This proof counterpart to the bullion coin provides you with a fantastic opportunity to see the design in a new light. Like the bullion coin, this piece was struck from one ounce of .999 fine silver. Unlike the bullion coin, it bears the "W" mint mark of the West Point Mint.
Classic Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
The obverse design originally appeared on Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar, which was issued from 1916-1947. It features Liberty draped in the American flag with a Phrygian cap, which designates a freed slave, on her head. She carries laurel and oak branches, symbols of civilian and military honors, in her left hand, as she extends her right hand above the rising sun, as though looking forward to the new day.
John Mercanti created the reverse design specifically for the debut of the Silver Eagle series in 1986. Adapted from the Great Seal of the United States, it consists of thirteen stars arranged in a triangular formation above an eagle, which guards a union shield. The eagle holds a ribbon that bears the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one) in its beak and holds arrows, symbols of military readiness, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in its talons. Rim inscriptions provide the coin's country, weight, and face value.
