Why order this 2019-W American Proof Silver Eagle?
Be a part of the latest issue of a companion piece to one of the world's favorite bullion coin with this 2019-W Proof Silver Eagle. The coin was first issued in 1986 along with the bullion version and has since become a favorite for those who love its classic design. The coin has the same weight, one ounce, and purity, .999 fine, as the bullion coin, but unlike the bullion version bears a mint mark, West Point's "W."
Traditional Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
The obverse design for the Silver Eagle series comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar, which was issued from 1916-1947. It consists of Liberty carrying branches of laurel and oak striding to the left side of the coin, and the sun, which rises to the left. Designed as America was faced with the possibility of entering the First World War, it is fiercely patriotic, with Liberty draped in the American flag.
An eagle guards a union shield while holding arrows, symbols of military preparedness, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in its talons. Thirteen stars, which are arranged in a triangular formation, are arranged above the bird's head. The design, which was adapted from the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti, is encircled by three rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
