Why purchase this America the Beautiful 2019-W Lowell National Park Quarter?
In an effort to introduce more people to the hobby of coin collecting, the US Mint released 10 million quarters bearing the West Point Mint's W mint mark into circulation during National Coin Week. The release included two million of each of the 2019 America the Beautiful quarters. The quarters were the first ever circulated quarters to bear the W mint mark. One of the five issues is this Lowell National Park Quarter. It celebrates the famous mill girls. This coin offers both novelty for all collectors and particular intrigue for those interested in the abolition movement, workers' rights, and American history.
Powerful Mill Girl Design by Joel Iskowitz
A left-side portrait of President George Washington by John Flanagan features at the center of the obverse. The design has been a mainstay of America's quarters since its debut in 1932. "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" flank the image, while "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUARTER DOLLAR" are inscribed along the rim.
The reverse features a mill girl design by Joel Iskowitz. Sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, it shows a mill girl working a power loom by a window. The mill girls had a reputation for opposing slavery, embracing education, and fighting to improve working conditions. The Boott Mill clock tower can be seen through the window. Inscriptions on the rim frame include but are not limited to "LOWELL" and "MASSACHUSETTS."
Well Preserved MS65 with West Point Star Label
