Why order this 2019-W $5 Gold Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Proof?
The U.S Mint has released just its second ever domed coins to celebrate the 50th anniversary of man's first landing on the moon. The landing was not only a major accomplishment in terms of space exploration writ large but also a major American victory in the Space Race with the Soviet Union. Struck from 8.359 g of .900 fine gold, this coin is part of a mintage of just 50,000 pieces, which also includes uncirculated pieces. It was struck at the West Point Mint, which is represented by a "W' mint mark.
Classic Lunar Landing design by Phebe Hemphill
Designed by Gary Cooper and sculpted by Joseph Menna, the obverse features a single footprint on the surface of the moon, a simple yet powerful symbol of the accomplishment. Cooper pays tribute to the programs that made the landing possible by including their names, "MERCURY," "GEMINI," and "APOLLO," at the top along with images of the moon in different phases. "IN GOD WE TRUST," "2019," and "LIBERTY" are also inscribed on the obverse.
Phebe Hemphill both designed and sculpted the reverse, which comes from part of a famous photograph taken during the Apollo 11 moon landing. The design is dominated by the visor of the helmet of Buzz Aldrin's spacesuit. Reflected in the visor is Neil Armstrong standing on the moon between the lunar module and the American flag. "FIVE DOLLARS," the coin's face value, is inscribed within the visor, while "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one) are included above and below it, respectively.

When it comes to modern U.S. coins, rarity as defined solely by a coin’s mintage usually matters less than the rarity of a particular coin relative to the other coins in its series.
Here are arguably the five top examples of modern U.S coins that are likely to remain in demand indefinitely and in most cases may remain the key date coins within their respective series.
Over the years, the West Point Mint has admirably served the Numismatic community by producing a number of iconic, noteworthy, and highly sought-after releases.
