Why purchase this Commemorative Proof $5 Gold 2019-W Apollo 11 50th Anniversary?

The U.S Mint marks fifty years since man's first visit to the moon during the Apollo 11 mission with seven coins. The coins, which share the same designs, together constitute just the second ever domed issues from the U.S Mint. Perfect for patriotic Americans and those with an interest in space exploration, this coin was struck at the West Point Mint from 8.359 g of .900 fine gold and bears a "W" mint mark. Along with the uncirculated version of the gold coin, it is part of a maximum mintage of just 50,000 pieces.

Poignant Footprint Design by Gary Cooper

A submission by Gary Cooper won a contest held for the obverse design. It features a single footprint on the lunar surface, the one that Neil Armstrong made when he emerged from the lunar module. Arching over it are images of the moon in four different phases and the names of the three NASA programs that led up to the moon landing, "MERCURY," "GEMINI," and "APOLLO." "IN GOD WE TRUST," "LIBERTY," and "2019" are also inscribed don this face.

Phebe Hemphill's reverse design is convex to replicate the shape of Buzz Aldrin's spacesuit helmet, which dominates this face. The image comes from a photo taken during the moon landing, in which Neil Armstrong can be seen standing between the American flag and the lunar module, in the reflection of the visor of Aldrin's helmet. The coin's face value, "FIVE DOLLARS," is included within the visor, while "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one) are inscribed on other parts of the helmet.

Flawless PF70 ER with Black Core Holder

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) set this coin in a black core holder and certified it Early Releases, which means that it was received for grading no more than thirty days after its initial release from the mint. NGC also awarded the coin its highest grade, Proof 70, which means that it is in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification. This piece comes slabbed in a stylish black core.
