Why add this Apollo 11 2019-W 50th Anniversary $5 Gold Commemorative Proof to your collection?

On July 20, 1969, at 20:17 UTC, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made history when they landed on the moon in the lunar module. Just hours later, they emerged from the vehicle to become the first men ever to walk on the moon. The achievement will forever be among the greatest in the history of space exploration. It also served as a major psychological victory for the United States during its Cold War Space Race with the USSR. Now, the U.S Mint marks the 50th anniversary of the event with seven new coins, including this Gold Proof. The proof was struck from 8.359 g of .900 fine gold at the West Point Mint and bears that mint's "W" mint mark. Just 50,000 pieces, including both proofs and uncirculated coins, will be struck.

Touching Lunar Footprint Design by Gary Cooper

The obverse features one of the most powerful, yet simple, symbols of the Apollo 11 landing, a footprint on the surface of the moon. The design also pays homage to the NASA programs that led up to the mission, "MERCURY," "GEMINI," and "APOLLO," listing them along the rim at the top among depictions of the moon in four phases.

The reverse design, which is convex, is dominated by the space helmet of Buzz Aldrin's spacesuit. The visor reflects an image of Neil Armstrong standing between the lunar module and the American flag, and the curvature of the coin mimics the curvature of the visor. Designer Phebe Hemphill created the image from a portion of a photograph taken during the moon landing. "FIVE DOLLARS" features within the visor, while additional inscriptions are included above and below it.

Stunning PF69 ER

This coin earned a Proof 69 grade from the team at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), which means that it appears perfect to the naked eye. NGC's experts also certified it Early Releases, a designation given to coins that were submitted to NGC no more than 30 days after their initial release.

Don't miss your chance to own this $5 Gold 2019-W Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Proof.
