Why purchase this 2019-W $5 Gold American Legion 100th Anniversary Commemorative?
Founded in Paris the year after the end of World War I, the American Legion has become America's largest wartime veterans service organization. It runs several programs that serve active service members, veterans, and youth, while promoting patriotism and honor. In 2019, the organization is celebrating its centennial anniversary. To mark the occasion, the U.S Mint has issued a clad half dollar, a silver dollar, and this $5 Gold coin. This piece is part of a combined mintage of 50,000 pieces, which also includes business strikes. It was struck from 8.359 g of .900 fine gold at the West Point Mint, which is represented by a "W" Mint mark on the obverse.
Powerful Victory Design by Chris Costello
A "V" for victory features at the center of Chris Costello's obverse design. It is superimposed on the Eiffel Tower, the iconic landmark of Paris, the city in which the Legion's first meeting was held. Inscriptions on this face read, "IN GOD WE TRUST," 'LIBERTY," and the anniversary years, "1919" and "2019."
Paul C. Balan's reverse consists of the emblem of the American Legion on the left and a soaring eagle on the right. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed along the rim, while "$5" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one) are on the interior.
Virtually Perfect PF69 UC FR
