Inspirational Commemorative Designs
The obverse illustrates the Eiffel Tower and a "V" for victory, with the sunburst border of the American Legion's logo in the background. The design created by Chris Costello, sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, is accompanied by the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "1919," "2019," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "W."
The reverse features a soaring eagle, its wing curving around the distinctive emblem of the American Legion. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "$5" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The powerful image created by Paul C. Balan was sculpted by Joseph Menna.
