Why Add This GEM 2019-W American Legion $5 Proof Gold Commemorative in OGP to Your Collection?
The coins released under the U.S. Mint's modern commemorative program have covered quite a range of subjects over the years. The American Legion, one of the most significant veterans' organizations in the U.S., is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2019. Several commemoratives were released for the occasion, including this $5 gold proof. Between the proof and uncirculated versions, no more than 50,000 of these $5 gold commemoratives will be released.
Iconic American Legion Designs
The obverse is inscribed with "1919," "2019," "LIBERTY," and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The "W" mintmark can also be found in this side, it's just below "2019." The central portion of the design depicts the Eiffel Tower with a "V" in front of it, representing victory at the end of the first World War.
The face value can be found on the reverse along with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The design here shows a stunningly detailed soaring bald eagle and the American Legion logo.
GEM Proof in OGP
This coin is still in its original government packaging. It has not been certified, it's still in GEM Proof condition. This is the same condition it was in upon leaving the Mint.
