Design Commemorating Characteristics of Mission Life
Created by Chris Costello and Joseph Menna, the reverse design features symbols of the Missions divided by a cross: a sheaf of wheat for farming, bell and arches for community, a river for irrigation methods and life-sustaining resources, and a lion to represent Spanish cultural heritage. The image border is inscribed with "SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS," "TEXAS," "2019" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
George Washington's image is centered on the obverse, a portrait crafted by sculptor John Flanagan in 1932. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "QUARTER DOLLAR" and the desirable West Point Mint mark "W."
