Why buy this Clad 2019-W 25C America the Beautiful San Antonio Missions Historical Park Quarter?
Share in the U.S Mint's celebration of National Coin Week with this Clad 2019-W San Antonio Missions Quarter. The coin is both part of the forty-ninth issue in the America the Beautiful Series and among the first ever circulated quarters to bear the West Point Mint's "W" mint mark. America's circulated quarters typically bear either the "P" mint mark of the Philadelphia Mint or the "D" mint mark of the Denver Mint. To celebrate National Coin Week 2019, though, the US Mint released millions of quarters with the "W" mint mark into circulation. None of these pieces were reserved for collectors, so high mint state examples are difficult to find.
Moving San Antonio Missions Design by Chris Costello
The coin shares a common obverse with all other issues in the set. John Flanagan's left-side portrait of President George Washington, which first appeared on quarters in 1932, is at the center. It is joined on this face by four statutory inscriptions, "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the coin's face value, "QUARTER DOLLAR."
The reverse design was created by Chris Costello and sculpted by Joseph Menna. It pays homage to the San Antonio Missions, among other things by its layout. It is divided into quadrants just like the Colonial Spanish Real. The quadrants each have symbols that represent various aspects of the mint. Arches and a bell reference community, and a lion rampant is a nod to the missions' Spanish heritage. Farming is represented by wheat, while a river design calls to mind irrigation and natural resources. Four inscriptions are spread throughout a rim frame. They include "SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS" and "TEXAS."
Well Maintained MS64 FR with West Point Star label
The West Point Star features on the label on which Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) provided this coin's grading information. That information includes an uncirculated grade of Mint State 64, which is relatively high given that the coin was released directly into circulation. It indicates that the coin has an average or better strike. NGC also certified the coin First Releases, which means that it was submitted to them within a month of its initial release.
