Now in its tenth year, the America the Beautiful Quarters Series continues to bring America's rich scenery and history to collectors. This clad piece is part of the forty-ninth issue in the series. It honors the missions that served as the foundation of the city of San Antonio. This coin bears the West Point Mint's "W" mint mark on the obverse. It will arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, just as it was when it left the mint.

Powerful San Antonio Missions Design by Chris Costello

A fixture of American quarters since 1932, John Flanagan's portrait of President George Washington appears on the obverse. The left-side effigy is flanked by a pair of inscriptions, "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." Rim inscriptions on this face give the name of the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and its face value, "QUARTER DOLLAR."

The reverse design was the creation of Chris Costello and was sculpted by Joseph Menna. In a reference to the city's Spanish heritage, it is divided into quadrants just like the Colonial Spanish Real. Each quadrant bears an image that represents some aspect of the missions. Arches and a bell serve as symbols of community in the upper left. A lion rampant in the upper right represents the missions' Spanish heritage. In the lower right is a river, which represents natural resources and irrigation. Finally, the lower left features wheat, a symbol of farming. "SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS" and "TEXAS" join two other inscriptions on the rim frame.
