Why buy this 2019-W $25 1 oz Palladium Eagle Reverse Proof?
In 2017 and 2018, the US Mint struck just 15,000 Proof Palladium Eagles. They sold quickly and are hard to find for collectors today. This year, the mint is only striking Reverse Proof Palladium Eagles. Although the mintage will be double that of the previous two years, 30,000 pieces, this issue is sure to be popular among collectors as well. Each piece was struck from 1 oz of .9995 fine palladium at the West Point Mint and has a "W" mint mark on the obverse.
Featuring the Historic Winged Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
On the obverse is Adolph Weinman's famous Winged Liberty design. It comes from the coin that is commonly referred to as the "Mercury Dime" due to the image's close resemblance to the Roman god of financial gain. Liberty is depicted in left-side profile wearing a winged cap, which represents freedom of thought. Her name, "LIBERTY," arches over the image. To the left is the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," while the date, "2019," is included at the bottom.
On the reverse is an image that Weinman designed for the 1907 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Gold Medal. An eagle is shown from the left with its wings spread and its head bowed. Rim inscriptions read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." Just inside the latter is an inscription of the coin's weight and purity, "1 OZ PD .9995 FINE," while the coin's face value, "$25," is on the left.
