Why buy this Reverse Proof 2019-W $25 1 oz Palladium Eagle?
In 2018, the US Mint released a Proof Palladium Eagle. It sold out in mere minutes. This year, the Mint instead issued a Reverse Proof. The coin features one of the most recognizable and beloved designs in the entire history of American numismatics. Struck from 1 oz of .9995 palladium, this coin bears the West Point Mint's "W" mint mark on the obverse. Just 30,000 of these coins were struck.
Famous Mercury Design by Adolph Weinman
This coin features the obverse design from Adolph Weinman's famous Mercury Dime. The name is a misnomer, as the design is actually Liberty wearing a winged cap. The cap represents freedom of thought, but many mistook the image for the Roman god. "LIBERTY" arches over her head, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST" is included in the lower left. The date, "2019," is near the bottom.
The reverse design was also the work of Weinman. It was his 1906 design for the American Institute of Architect's gold medal. Shown from the left, an eagle stands with its wings spread and its head down. Arching over the image is the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA." The face value, "$25," is included on the left, while "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one) is inscribed along the rim at the bottom.
Virtually Flawless PF69 ER with Palladium Label
This coin received Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC's) second highest grade, Proof 69, which means that it appears perfect to the unaided eye. It was also certified Early Releases, a designation given to coins that were submitted for grading within 30 days of their initial release from the mint. Grading information comes provided on a palladium label, which features part of Weinman's reverse design.
