Why buy this $50 American 2019-W 1 oz Gold Eagle Proof?

The bullion and proof Gold Eagles debuted in 1986 and immediately proved popular among collectors thanks to their stunning beauty and the fact that they are backed for weight and purity by the U.S government. To mark the 20th anniversary of the series, the US Mint issued the first ever burnished Gold Eagles in 2006. They have been issued every year since with the exceptions of 2009 and 2010. This low mintage coin is perfect for collectors looking for a unique way to admire the iconic obverse design. It was struck on a one ounce burnished blank of .9167 fine gold at the West Point Mint and bears that mint's "W" mint mark.

Iconic Saint-Guadens Design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens

The coin's obverse bears what many consider the most beautiful design in numismatic history, the Saint-Gaudens. Named for its designer, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, it features Liberty standing at the center striking a confidence pose as she faces the holder. She holds her torch, a beacon of freedom, high in her right hand and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, off to her side with her left hand. She is joined by a miniature rendering of the Capitol Dome. The rays of the morning sun spread out behind her, making her appear lager than life, and fifty stars along the rim represent the current states.

The reverse was the creation of Miley Busiek. A male eagle returns to his nest carrying an olive branch. His mate watches his return while nestling their young. Inscriptions on this face include the coin's weight, "1 OZ. FINE GOLD," and face value, "50 DOLLARS."
