Magnificent Gold Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse, confidently marching forward grasping an olive branch in her left hand and flaming torch in her right, with the U.S. Capitol building and the rays of the sun in the background. The image is surrounded by fifty stars, along with the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "W" and "2019." The timeless personification of Liberty was originally crafted by acclaimed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the 1907 Gold Double Eagle.
Reverse: The reverse design by Miley Busiek depicts a nesting family of eagles, with a stunning eagle in flight above, gripping a single olive branch in its talons. This is notably the Type-1 style graphic, which appeared on all Gold Eagle releases from 1986 until mid-2021. Ms. Busiek is a prolific American sculptor, with works on display in locations such as the Smithsonian American History Museum and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
