Featuring John Reich's Peace and Friendship Design
The obverse design is a portrait of President John Quincy Adams. Moritz Furst both designed and sculpted the image. It is encircled by rim inscriptions that include the President's name, "JOHN QUINCY ADAMS," title, "PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES," and the year that he assumed the office, "1825."
The reverse was designed and sculpted by John Reich. It consists of two parts and an inscription of its name, "PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP." The top portion of the design consists of a tomahawk that is crossed with a peace pipe. Below are a pair of clasped hands. The hand representing the United States has a cuff with three stripes and buttons on the wrist, while the wrist of the hand representing Native Americans is bare.
