Why add this 2019 1 oz Silver R1 South Africa Krugerrand to your collection?
The South African Gold Krugerrand, which debuted in 1967, is a giant in the numismatic world. It is one of the few coins that must be a part of any serious gold collection. To mark the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 2017, the South African Mint released a silver Premium Uncirculated version of the coin for collectors. The issue proved so popular that it was followed by a bullion release in 2018. With this 2019 version, the young series enters its second year. This coin was struck on a one ounce planchet of .999 fine silver. It is part of a limited mintage and will arrive in GEM Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
Iconic Paul Kruger Design by Otto Schultz
Paul Schultz's obverse design debuted on the 1984 Gold Krugerrand. It shows Paul Kruger, the third president of the South African Republic, in left-side profile. He bears a stern countenance and wears his signature long, full beard. Rim inscriptions on this face provide the name of the issuing country in Afrikaans, "SUID-AFRIKA," and English, "SOUTH AFRICA."
A springbok antelope gracefully bounds across the savanna on Coert Steynberg's reverse. Its head turns slightly to the holder's right, which enables the holder to examine its face at a slight angle. So closely associated with the country is the animal, that its national teams are referred to as "the Springboks." The name of the coin, "KRUGERRAND," is inscribed at the top, while the date, "2019," is split to either side of the springbok. The coin's weight is offered in Afrikaans and English at the bottom, "FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER," and is joined by its face value, "R1."
