Two children are depicted on the obverse, with hands held over their hearts as they recite the inscribed words "I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG..." The image sculpted by Phebe Hemphill includes the additional inscriptions "LIBERTY," "2019" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
Featuring the artistic skill of Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna, the reverse is inscribed with the conclusion of the obverse phrase "...OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" beneath a U.S. flag as viewed through children's eyes and the American Legion's emblem. Inscribed "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "HALF DOLLAR" and "S."
