Why purchase this 2019-S Proof 1 oz Silver American Eagle?
The Proof Silver Eagle Series began in 1986, the same year that its bullion counterpart made its debut. Since then, collectors around the world have appreciated it for the opportunity that it offers to see one of the most beautiful designs in numismatic history with a stunning proof finish that brings out every detail. This piece was released at the Chicago ANA Show. It was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver at the San Francisco Mint, the "S" mint mark of which appears on the reverse.
Featuring the Famous Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
The obverse of coins in this series comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar, which was issued from 1916-1947. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, which traditionally means that someone is a freed slave, and is draped in the American flag. She carries laurel and oak branches in her left hand. These traditionally symbolize civilian and military honors, respectively. Her right hand she extends in front of her above the sun, which is emerging from beyond the horizon. She appears as though she is presenting the holder with the new day. "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2019" are inscribed on this face.
On the reverse is an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States. Designed by John Mercanti, it consists of thirteen stars, one for each of the original states, above the head of an eagle. The eagle guards a union shield while holding a ribbon in its beak and arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The ribbon bears the phase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). The arrows serve as a reminder to all that America will defend her values when necessary, while the olive branch expresses a desire for peace. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed on the top half of the rim, while the bottom half bears the inscriptions "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR."
