Why purchase this 1 oz Silver 2019-S Proof American Eagle?
Collectors young and old are sure to appreciate this latest American Silver Eagle Proof. The proof version of the coin dates back to 1986, the same year as the bullion version debuted. It offers a stunning finish that brings to life the designs of the world's favorite silver series. This piece was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver at the San Francisco Mint, which is represented by its "S" mint mark.
Famous Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
Liberty strides toward the left on Adolph Weinman's reverse. Weinman created the design for the half dollar, where it remained from 1916-1947 before being revived for the Silver Eagle series in 1986. Liberty has a traditional symbol of freedom from slavery on her head, a Phrygian cap, and she is draped in an American flag. She extends her right hand above the rising sun while carrying laurel and oak branches, which represent civilian and military honors, in her left. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed along the rim, while "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2019" are also included on this face.
The reverse features an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. At the top of the design, thirteen stars represent the original states. Below, an eagle protects a union shield. The bird holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons, the former indicating a preference for peace and the latter serving as a reminder that America has the willingness to defend her values. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" spreads through the stop half of the rim, while inscriptions on the bottom half read, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR."
