Why buy this 2019-P High Relief United States American Liberty Medal?
The American Liberty Series began in 2015 as a way to celebrate America's ethnic and geographical diversity, as well as the values of freedom and equality. This 2019 medal features two designs that were submitted for earlier issues in the series. It was struck from 2.5 oz of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint, which is represented by its famous "P" mint mark on the obverse. This is the first time that the Mint has ever struck a 2.5 oz. silver medal issue! This medal has a mintage cap of just 50,000 pieces. It remains in GEM Specimen condition and comes with a certificate of authenticity in its original packaging from the US Mint, which includes a hardwood presentation case.
Powerful Liberty Design by Richard Masters
The obverse features a left-side portrait of Liberty that was created by Richard Masters and sculpted by Joseph Menna. Liberty has long hair and wears a headdress from which thirteen rays of light emanate. Those rays represent the creative and free spirit of Americans. Thirteen stars spread throughout the left side of the rim. Inscriptions on this face include "LIBERTY" and "2019."
Donna Weaver created the reverse design, which was sculpted by Michael Gaudioso. It features an eagle, which is shown from the left as it prepares to land. Its face appears focused, and its talons are outstretched and open, ready to clasp its perch. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed along the rim.
