Why order this 2019-P America the Beautiful 5 oz. Silver Missions Specimen?
Nearing the end of its tenth year, the America the Beautiful Series continues to bring the country's natural beauty to collectors in fine silver. The series consists of coins depicting national parks from each state, Washington DC, and America's territories. Each issue has consisted of a bullion strike and a collectible piece, like this one. This piece is identifiable as the collectible version thanks to its specimen finnish and the inclusion of the Philadelphia Mint's "P" mint mark. Like the bullion coin, it was struck from 5 oz of .999 fine silver.
Striking San Antonio Missions Design by Chris Costello
President George Washington's left-side portrait by John Flanagan features at the center of the obverse. The image has appeared on America's quarters since 1932. Washington is joined by four inscriptions. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUARTER DOLLAR" are on the rim, while "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" are on either side of the effigy.
Chris Costello designed and Joseph Menna sculpted the reverse design. It pays tribute to the famous Colonial Spanish Real with its quadrant design. Each area of the quadrant features a symbol of the missions. They include wheat for farming, arches and a bell for community, a lion for Spanish heritage, and a river for irrigation and natural resources. The image is encircled by a rim frame in which there are four inscriptions, including "TEXAS" and "SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS."
Flawless SP70 FS with Mercanti Signed Label
Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) provided the grading information for this coin on a label that was hand signed by former US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti. That information includes the company's highest grade, Specimen 70. The number indicates that the piece is in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification, while "Specimen" means that a coin shares characteristics of business strikes and proofs. PCGS also certified the piece First Strikes because of the fact that it was submitted for grading within 30 days of its initial mint release.
