Stunning Red Kangaroo Design by Dr. Stuart Devlin
For the first time since 1998, Australian bullion coins now feature a new effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. on the obverse. The new design was created by Jody Clark, an engraver at the British Royal Mint, and it is distinct from his design that has featured on British coinage over the past few years. The new effigy shows the monarch wearing her Royal Diamond Diadem and a necklace. In a departure from previous royal portraits, it goes down to her shoulders. Her likeness is encircled by three rim inscriptions: "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA," and "1 DOLLAR."
Dr. Stuart Devlin's red kangaroo design features on the reverse, as it has on each issue of the series since its inception in 2016. A single kangaroo is depicted in left-side profile in full bound. It is set against a radiating design that represents sunlight. "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO" is inscribed at the top, while "2019 1 OZ 9999 SILVER" is included at the bottom.
