Why buy this 2019-P $2 Australia 2 oz Silver Crocodile Piedfort?
Female crocodiles have the strongest bite in the animal kingdom. Though they are ferocious predators, they are extremely tender toward their young. That relationship makes possible this stunning coin, which celebrates the relationship of mother and baby. Part of a mintage of 75,000 pieces, this coin was struck from 2 oz of .9999 fine silver at the Perth Mint. It bears that mint's iconic "P" mint mark on the reverse. Both faces of the coin have radial lines that make it extremely difficult to counterfeit.
Touching Mother and Baby Crocodile Design
On the obverse is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that was designed by Jody Clark of the British Royal Mint. The monarch wears the same crown that she wore at her coronation, the Royal Diamond Diadem, as well as earrings and a necklace. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," is among five sets of inscriptions on the rim. The others read, "AUSTRALIA," "2019," "2 OZ 9999 AG," and "2 DOLLARS."
A mother crocodile floats swims atop the surface of the water on the reverse. One of her hatchlings stands on her head. His mouth is open and he appears to be smiling, just as a human child would.
