Why buy this 1 oz Silver 2019-P $1 Australia Wedge-Tailed Eagle?
In 2014, the Perth Mint introduced the Silver Wedge Tailed Eagle series. The series marked the first time that a US Mint engraver, in this case John Mercanti, had collaborated with a foreign mint on a coin. The new series has become extremely popular among collectors not only because of its exquisite designs but also due to its relatively low mintages for a bullion series. This latest edition introduces the fourth design in the series. The coin bears the Perth Mint's "P" mint mark on the reverse. It was struck from one ounce of .9999 fine silver, and the 2019 mintage is capped at just 50,000 pieces.
Stunning Wedge-Tailed Eagle Design by John Mercanti
For the first time in decades, coins struck at the Perth Mint have a new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This one, which was designed by Jody Clark, shows the longest reigning monarch in British history in right-side profile with her shoulders open toward the holder. She wears a necklace and the same Royal Diamond Diadem that she wore at her coronation. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," is inscribed to the left, while "AUSTRALIA" and "2019" are inscribed to the right.
John Mercanti's reverse design, his fourth in this series, shows an eagle swooping down toward its prey. Its talons are stretched forward, indicating that he is about to snatch up his next victim. The dynamic background enhances the look of movement. Inscriptions on the rim frame read, "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE" and "1 OZ .9999 SILVER."
