Why order this 1 oz Silver 2019-P $1 Australia Wedge-Tailed Eagle?
In 2014, the Perth Mint and John Mercanti came together in the first ever partnership of a foreign mint and a U.S. Mint engraver, to create the Silver Wedge-Tailed Eagle. Mercanti's stunning designs and the Perth Mint's outstanding production have captured the imaginations of collectors ever since. The 2019 edition marks the first issue in the series to bear new designs on both faces of the coin. Mintage of this release has been capped at just 50,000 pieces, adding scarcity to the coin's allure. Each piece was struck from one ounce of .9999 fine silver.
Powerful Wedge-Tailed Eagle Design by John Mercanti
2018 was the end of an era in Australian coinage, as it marked the last year in which Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II featured on its obverse. Starting in 2019, Australian coins feature Jody Clark's effigy of the monarch. He includes in his design, her shoulders, which are open to the holder. The Royal Diamond Diadem, which she wore at her coronation, sits on her head. The image is flanked by a pair of rim inscriptions, "ELIZABETH II" on the left and "AUSTRALIA 2019" on the right.
On the reverse, a dynamic background serves to enhance the appearance of movement of a Wedge-Tailed Eagle as it swoops down toward its prey. The determined bird stretches its talons forward, which indicates that it is just about to strike. This design is encircled by a rim frame on which there are two inscriptions. One reads, "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE," and the other says, "2019 1 OZ 9999 SILVER."
