Why order this 50th Anniversary Commemorative 2019-P Apollo 11 Silver Dollar?

In 2019, the U.S will celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest accomplishments in the nation's history, man's first landing on the moon. The U.S Mint is marking the occasion with seven coins that together are just the second-ever domed release from the mint. This Silver Dollar Commemorative is ideal for those interested in exploration, those looking for inspiration, and anyone who wants to commemorate a great American victory in the Space Race. It was struck from 26.730 g of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint, the "P" mint mark of which is on the obverse. Along with its proof counterpart, this coin is part of a combined mintage of 400,000 pieces.

Stunning Neil Armstrong Design by Phebe Hemphill

Gary Cooper's obverse design was engraved by Joseph Menna. At the center of the design is a single footprint on the lunar surface, which at once captures the simplicity of the event itself, and the tremendous significance that it had in human understanding and development. Arching over the footprint are images of the moon in four phases interspersed among the names of the three NASA programs that made the landing possible, "MERCURY," "GEMINI," and "APOLLO." Other inscriptions on this face include but are not limited to "2019" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."

The reverse is the convex portion of the coin. Designed by Phebe Hemphill, it mirrors the curvature of the helmet of Buzz Aldrin's spacesuit. The design recreates a portion of a famous picture from the lunar landing in which the visor of Aldrin's helmet clearly reflects Neil Armstrong standing on the surface of the moon between the American flag and the lunar module. The coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR," is included within the visor section, while other parts of the helmet bear the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one).
