Why add this Commemorative 2019-P Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Silver Dollar to your collection?Celebrate the 50th anniversary of a major American Space Race victory and one of the greatest accomplishments in human history with this Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Silver Dollar. The coin is one of seven issued by the U.S Mint to mark the milestone. The coins are just the second ever domed issues from the Mint. Struck from 26.73 g of .999 fine silver, this piece bears the Philadelphia Mint's "P" mint mark on the obverse. It is part of a mintage of 400,000 pieces, which also includes proofs. Patriotic Moon Landing Design by Phebe HemphillThe U.S Mint chose the obverse design from submissions for a competition that it held for the honor. A lunar footprint design by Gary Cooper emerged victorious for encapsulating the tremendous achievement with a simple symbol. Cooper also honors the three NASA programs that led up to the moon landing, "MERCURY," "GEMINI," and "APOLLO," by including their names along the rim at the top. Along with those names are depictions of the moon in four phases. Additional inscriptions appear throughout the bottom half of this face. Phebe Hemphill's reverse design is sure to move any patriotic American. Based on a photograph taken on the moon, it shows a powerful reflection in the visor of Buzz Aldrin's space helmet. Neil Armstrong is standing on the moon between the American flag and the lunar module. The coin's shape mimics the curvature of Aldrin's helmet. Three inscriptions appear on this face, including the coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR," which is the only one within the visor. Splendid MS69 ER with Black Core HolderNumismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) set this piece in a black core holder, which offers a sharp contrast with the silver coin. The grading company also certified that the coin is perfect as seen by the naked eye by awarding it their second highest grade, Mint State 69. The coin was also labeled Early Releases, which means that it was submitted to NGC no more than thirty days after the it was released by the mint.
