In 2019 the U.S. Mint issued a three-coin proof set of commemorative coins in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the American Legion. This silver dollar, struck from 0.8594 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint, was once part of the specially minted set.
Magnificently Detailed Designs
The obverse features the Legion's star insignia accompanied by oak leaves and a lily blossom, which represent strength, devotion and memory. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2019." The design is credited to Paul C. Balan and Renata Gordon.
The reverse imagery by Patricia Lucas-Morris and Michael Gaudioso depicts the crossed flags of the Legion and U.S., beneath a fleur-de-lis and an ornate arch. Inscriptions include "100 YEARS OF SERVICE," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1919," "2019," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "P" and "$1."

This 2019-P Silver Dollar issued in the American Legion 100th Anniversary 2019 Three-coin Proof Set was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) for review within thirty days of its release from the Mint, earning the First Releases designation. The coin is deemed to be in flawless Proof 70 Ultra Cameo (UC) condition for its pristine surfaces and sharply struck contrast between finishes. The silver dollar is presented in a protective holder with a NGC certification label signed by retired U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti.
