Why buy this 2 oz Silver 2019-Mo Mexico Antiqued Libertad?
Silver bullion Libertads are extremely popular among hobbyists, but their collectible counterparts are especially coveted every year. Antiqued versions of the coin have extremely low mintages and are prized pieces for decades. This piece is part of a mintage of just 1,000 pieces. It was struck on a 2 oz planchet of .999 fine silver at Casa de Moneda de Mexico and bears that mint's unique "Mo" mint mark on the reverse.
Powerful Winged Victory Design
The coin's obverse features Mexico's current coat of arms at the center and historic coats of arms spread throughout the rim. The current coat features a golden eagle eating a snake. The bird is perched on a cactus. Although the original meaning of the image is more complex and has its roots in ancient native religions, Westerners interpret the image simply as the victory of good over evil. "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS," the name of the issuing country in its native Spanish, arches over this image.
Dominating the reverse is Winged Victory, also known as the Angel of Independence, a statue that stands in downtown Mexico City. It stands as a symbol of the country's independence. The figure spreads her wings as her garment falls away, leaving her bare breasted. She is flanked by two volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, which rise in the distance. The names come from lovers in ancient lore, which is one of the reasons that Libertads are so popular among couples. Arching along the top half of the rim are inscriptions that offer the coin's weight, date, and purity. Together, they read, "2 ONZAS PLATA PURA 2019 LEY .999."
Flawless MS70 FR with Exclusive Mexico Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) awarded this coin its highest grade, Mint State 70, which means that it appears perfect under 5x magnification. This information comes provided on a label that features the Mexican flag and one of the country's most famous landmarks, El Castillo, the pyramid that dominates Tulum.
