Why buy this Reverse Proof 2019-Mo Mexico 1 oz Gold Libertad?
Few coins can compare to the Libertad in terms of capturing stunning beauty and fierce national pride at once. The 2019 addition marks the 40th annual release of the Gold Libertad series. Bullion Libertads are popular, but collectible pieces like this stunning Reverse Proof are particularly prized among discerning collectors thanks in part to their low mintages. In fact, this coin is one of just 500 of its kind and marks just the second time a Reverse Proof addition was added to the series. It was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine gold at Casa de Moneda de Mexico and bears that mint's unique "Mo" mint mark on the reverse. The coin remains in GEM Proof condition and comes in its original packaging from the mint.
Sstunning Winged Victory Design
At the center of the obverse is Mexico's coat of arms. A golden eagle perched on a cactus consumes a rattlesnake. Westerners interpret the image as the triumph of good over evil, but its origins are more complex and come from native religions. The name of the issuing country, "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS," combines with an open wreath to encircle the image. Historical Mexican coats of arms spread throughout the outside of this face.
The reverse features the Angel of Independence, a statue that stands on a victory column in downtown Mexico City. The statue represents Mexico's independence. The figure spreads her wings as her garment falls away, revealing her breasts. She holds a broken chain, which represents the country's broken ties to Spain, in her left hand. Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl,, two volcanoes that take their names from lovers of pre-Columbian lore, rise in the distance. The source of their names is one of the reasons that Libertads are popular among lovers. Inscriptions along the top half of the rim offer the coin's weight, purity, and date. Together, they read, "1 ONZA ORO PURO 2019 LEY .999."
