This 46th release of the U.S. Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters series honoring Lowell, was struck from 5 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint. The satiny finish specimen version of the coin is minted especially for collectors, featuring the "P" Philadelphia Mint mark.

The obverse features medal artist John Flanagan's sculpture of George Washington created in 1932. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "QUARTER DOLLAR."
