Why purchase this Silver 2019 Great Britain Britannia 6-Coin Proof Set?
The first ever Britannia Silver Proofs were issued in 1997. They beautifully captured the majesty, conviction, and rightness of purpose, of one of the world's traditional powers. Over two decades later, this 2019 Silver Proof Britannia Set continues that tradition. Each coin in the set was struck from .999 fine silver at Britain's Royal Mint. The six coins vary in weight from 1/40 oz to 1 oz. No more than 950 sets were struck, so some collectors will miss out on this amazing collection. This set comes in its original mint packaging, which includes a black display case and a booklet that details the history of Britannia. Each coin remains in GEM Proof condition.
Powerful Britannia Design by David Lawrence
The coins in this set all bear the same obverse and reverse designs. Jody Clark's Queen Elizabeth II design returns again to the obverse of the Proof Britannia. Clark shows the monarch in right-side profile wearing the same crown that she wears for the State Opening of Parliament, the Royal Diamond diadem. She is encircled by two sets of inscriptions, one of which offers the coin's face value and the other of which is her name and abbreviated Latin title, "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D" (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith).
David Lawrence's new Britannia design makes its debut on the reverse. She stands facing right with part of her long hair covered by her military helmet. She thrusts her trident forward with her right hand while holding her shield behind her with her left. On the shield is Britain's iconic Union Jack. A lion, a traditional symbol of Britain, stands next to her with a look of determination on its face. Rim inscriptions read, "BRITANNIA," "FINE SILVER 999," and "2019." The coin's individual weight is included at the top as well.
