Why buy this 2019 £5 Great Britain 1.82 oz Silver 200th Anniversary Queen Victoria Proof?

Prior to 2015, Queen Victoria was the longest reigning monarch in British history. Not surprisingly, many historic events took place during that reign. Now, the Royal Mint honors Victoria and some of the important historical events that took part during her reign with this stunning coin. Struck from 1.82 oz of .925 fine silver, this coin is part of a mintage of 2,750 pieces.

Historical Gearwheel Design by John Bergdahl

The current British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, features on the obverse in a portrait by Jody Clark. Clark shows her wearing her Royal Diamond Diadem and earrings. Her name and abbreviated Latin title, "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D" (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith) are inscribed along the rim, as are the coin's face value, "5 POUNDS," and its date, "2019."

The reverse design, which is the work of John Bergdahl, appropriately uses a series of gearwheels that reference the Industrial Revolution, which largely took place during Victoria's reign. One of the wheels features a left-side portrait of her along with her name, "VICTORIA," and the coin's anniversary dates, "1819-2019," while another wheel shows the coin's face value, "5 POUNDS." Designs on other wheels celebrate inventions and events that took place during her reign, including the launching of the SS Great Eastern, then the largest ship ever built, the creation of the Penny Farthing, Victoria's status as the first reigning monarch to use trains, and the invention of the telephone.

Virtually Flawless PF69 UC First 250 Struck with Tower Bridge Label, COA, and Storybook

This coin earned Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC's) second highest grade, Proof 69, which means that it appears perfect to the naked eye. NGC also certified the coin Ultra Cameo, thus crediting it for exhibiting sharp contrasts between heavily frosted devices and deeply mirrored fields on the obverse. The grading company also noted that this piece was among the first 250 struck. The coin comes in a black presentation case along with a certificate of authenticity and a storybook.
