The coin's reverse features the iconic image of the Goddess Britannia, encircled by an Oriental Border, standing at the sea shore peering over her shoulder at the waves. She holds her Union Jack shield and her trusty trident. On her head she is wearing her traditional Corinthian helmet. This image of Britannia, the traditional protector of the British Isles, was designed by British artist Philip Nathan and was first used in 1987 on the Gold Britannia series.
