Why add this 1 oz Silver 2019 $1 Fiji Blackened Eagle Ruthenium Plated Gilt Proof to your collection?
This Blackened Eagle is perfect not only for collectors who love bird-themed coins, but also for those looking for coins that will stand out in their collections. The coin marks another collaborative effort between a former U.S Mint employee and a foreign mint following the example of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle series on which John Mercanti is collaborating with the Perth Mint. This gilt coin features layered ruthenium plating that darkens the areas behind the primary designs. Struck at the Commonwealth Mint from 1 oz of .999 fine silver, this coin is part of a mintage of just 10,000 coins. The entire issue is available exclusively from MCM. This coin will arrive in GEM Proof condition.
Striking Eagle Designs by Joel Iskowitz
Both faces of the coin bear the designs of Joel Iskowitz. On the obverse, Iskowitz shows a closeup look at the face of an eagle, which faces the left side of the coin. Also on this face are inscriptions of the coin's country, "FIJII," and date, "2019," as well as the Fijian coat of arms.
The reverse image depicts an eagle swooping down to snatch up its next meal. The gilt image shows the bird controlling its descent with its wings spread while stretching its open claws toward its prey. Like the bird images on both face, the coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR," is gilt. A second inscription on this face offers the coin's weight and purity, reading, ".999 AG 1 OZ."
