Iconic DesignsOn the obverse of the 2019-S Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Clad Half Dollar, is the image of a lunar footprint, designed by Gary Cooper. The image is a simple yet powerful symbol of Neil Armstrong's "One small step for man; one giant leap for mankind." Cooper pays homage to the NASA programs that led up to the landing with their names, "MERCURY," "GEMINI," and "APOLLO," inscribed above the image along with depictions of the moon in various stages. The several other inscriptions on this face include "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," the national motto. The reverse design is convex to hint at the design of Buzz Aldrin's helmet, which dominates this face. The bulk of the design is the visor, which shows a reflection of the America flag waving next to Neil Armstrong and the lunar module. "HALF DOLLAR" is inscribed in the upper left of the visor. Inscriptions on other portions of the helmet read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). The obverse of the Kennedy Clad Half Dollar features the well-known image of the left-facing profile of the former 35th President of the United States. This time struck in an enhanced reverse proof finish. The reverse of the coin bears a slightly altered version of the Seal of the President of the United States.
