Why order this Incuse 2019 $5 Canada 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf?
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of the world's favorite silver bullion coins, the Royal Canadian Mint issued a first ever incuse bullion Maple Leaf. in 2018. That issue proved so popular that the mint is issuing another incuse edition in 2019 as part of the 40th anniversary of the Gold Maple Leaf. Like its bullion counterpart, the coin was struck on a one ounce, .9999 fine silver planchet. Just 250,000 incuse coins will be struck.
Iconic Maple Leaf Design
Susanna Blunt's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, long a fixture of Canadian coinage, features on the obverse. Blunt shows the monarch facing the right side of the coin with her shoulders open toward the holder. She wears earrings and a necklace, but unlike her effigies on coins from other countries and territories, this one does not include a crown or tiara. The monarch's name, "ELIZABETH II," arches over her image, while the coin's face value, "5 DOLLARS," and date, "2019," are included below it.
The reverse features one of Canada's most recognizable symbols, the maple leaf. The finely detailed design, which has appeared on the Silver Maple Leaf since the series began, brings the image to life, making the leaf appear just like one that falls on the forest floor in autumn. The purity of the coin, "9999," is inscribed to the leaf's left and right, while its weight is inscribed in English and French at the bottom. "CANADA" is inscribed along the rim at the top.
