Why buy this 2019 Austria 1 oz Silver Leopold?

In 1193, Austrian Duke Leopold V took English King Richard the Lionheart prisoner. The Duke demanded a ransom of 35,000 kilograms of silver for his release. The English government raised the money through taxation, which ultimately led to the story of Robin Hood. The silver was used to open a mint in Vienna. In 2019, that mint celebrates its 825th anniversary. To mark the occasion, it is releasing a set of three coins that tell the tale of its foundation, of which this is the first. Part of a mintage of 100,000 pieces, this coin was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.

Stunning Duke Leopold Design

Duke Leopold V's official seal was adapted for the obverse. The leader sports knightly armor and rides on horseback with his banner in one hand and his shield in other. Arching over him is the name of the issuing country in German, "REPUBLIK OSTERREICH." Additional inscriptions on this face include the coin's face value, "1,50 EURO," its date, "2019," and its weight," 1 UNZA FEINSILBER."

Leopold V is rendered in closeup on the reverse. He is dressed in his armor and wears a surcoat that bears his coat of arms. Banners flap behind him as he wields his sword. The date of the foundation of the Austrian Mint, "1194," is inscribed in the upper left.

Virtually Flawless MS69 FR Black Core Holder Austria Label

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) set this coin in a sleek black core and awarded it their second highest grade, Mint State 69. A coin must be in perfect condition as seen by the naked eye to receive that grade. NGC also certified that the coin was submitted to them within 30 days following its release from the mint by labeling it First Releases. This information comes on a label that features a stunning alpine scene.
